In the State of California, a conviction of a sex crime, including solicitation, carries with it severe punishments, as well as humiliation. Solicitation of prostitution is when two people arrange to trade money or other valuable goods in exchange for sex or sexual services.
Following the agreement, the two people usually make a decision of where the sex act will occur.
- California Penal Code Section 266 (e) states that any person who trades money or valuables in exchange for sexual services has violated the law and is guilty of a Felony.
- California Penal Code Section 653.22 (a) states that it is illegal for a person to loiter in a public area with the purpose of prostitution. Actions which suggest that a person is loitering for purposes of prostitution include enticing and soliciting.
- California Penal Code Section 653.23 (a) (2) states that any person who receives money that was obtained through prostitution by another individual has violated the law.
There are many instances in which innocent people are wrongly accused of sex crimes such as prostitution, solicitation, pandering, and pimping. Merely being in the wrong place at the wrong time has resulted in the arrests of many innocent people. A more controversial situation in which people are arrested for prostitution-related crimes is called a “sting operation.” In a prostitution sting operation, an undercover police officer will pose as a prostitute and deceive the innocent victim, placing them in a compromising situation. The “John” will then be arrested for soliciting a prostitute.
If you have been charged with solicitation or prostitution-related crimes, you should hire an aggressive Los Angeles prostitution defense lawyer immediately. Call the Law Offices of Lawrence Wolf today to discuss your solicitation case.
